The Chinese zodiac animal here follows the calendar year. Strictly it changes at Chinese New Year (or, in some traditions, at the solar term 立春), so anyone born in January or early February belongs to the previous year's animal.
How to use the age calculator
- Enter your date of birth — add the time too if you want the hour and minute totals to be exact.
- Leave the third box on today, or set another date to find out how old you were (or will be) then.
- Scroll down for the live countdown to your next birthday, the weekday you were born on, and your Chinese and Western zodiac signs.
FAQ
What is the difference between 周岁 and 虚岁?
周岁 is the international count: you turn one on your first birthday. 虚岁 is the traditional Chinese count: a newborn is already one, and everyone gains a year at Chinese New Year. So 虚岁 is usually one more than 周岁, and two more between New Year and your birthday.
How are months counted?
Calendar months, not 30-day blocks. From 31 January to 1 March is one month and one day, because the month rolls over on the same day number when it exists and on the last day of the month when it does not.
Does the page know my birthday?
No. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere — the dates live only in the page while it is open.
