How to use the pomodoro timer
- Set your focus and break lengths — 25 and 5 minutes is the classic pairing, with a longer break after every fourth round.
- Press Start and work until the ring empties; the tab title counts down, so you can see the time from any other tab.
- Turn on notifications and the chime so you are told when a phase ends even if this page is hidden behind another window.
FAQ
Does it keep time if I switch tabs?
Yes. The timer stores the moment it should finish rather than counting ticks, so a throttled background tab cannot make it drift. It resyncs the instant you come back.
Are my settings remembered?
Your lengths and switches are saved in this browser's local storage, so they are there next time. Nothing is sent to a server and the session log is cleared when you close the page.
Why 25 minutes?
Francesco Cirillo picked the length of a kitchen timer he owned — the point is not the exact number but that it is short enough to start without dread and long enough to get somewhere. Adjust it to whatever you can actually sustain.
