⚠️ In every mode except Lossless the pages become pictures: text can no longer be selected, searched or copied, and links stop working.

How to compress a PDF
- Drop in the PDF — its current size and page count appear straight away.
- Start with Lossless. If the file is still too big, step up to High quality, Balanced or Smallest file.
- Compare the before and after figures, then download the smaller file.
FAQ
Why did lossless barely change anything?
Because most PDFs are already deflate-compressed. The lossless pass only rewrites the structure and removes orphaned objects, so the win is small on a well-made file and large on one exported by an old tool.
What exactly do the other levels do?
Each page is rendered at the chosen resolution and stored as a single JPEG. That flattens fonts, vectors and text into pixels, which is what makes scanned and image-heavy documents shrink dramatically — at the cost of the text layer.
My file got bigger. What happened?
A page of plain text turns into a photograph of that text, which can take more bytes than the text itself. The tool notices this and hands you the lossless version instead.
