Chinese surnames often keep an older reading: 单 is Shàn, not Dān; 仇 is Qiú, not Chóu. Enter one name per line.

How to convert Chinese to pinyin

  1. Paste Chinese text into the left box — the pinyin appears immediately on the right.
  2. Choose tone marks (nǐ hǎo), tone numbers (ni3 hao3), no tone or just first letters, and set a separator.

FAQ

Does it handle characters with more than one reading?

Yes. The converter reads whole words, not single characters, so 银行 comes out as yín háng and 重要 as zhòng yào rather than the wrong reading of 行 and 重.

Why does the name box give a different answer?

Surnames often preserve an older pronunciation. In the name panel 单田芳 is read Shàn Tián Fāng and 仇英 is Qiú Yīng, which is what you want on a passport, a paper or a name card.

What are the first letters used for?
