How to trim an audio file
- Drop an MP3, WAV, M4A or OGG file onto the box — it is decoded in your browser and never uploaded.
- Drag across the waveform to select the part you want to keep, then fine-tune with the start and end sliders and press Play selection.
- Add a fade in or fade out if you like, pick WAV or MP3, and click Trim and export.
FAQ
Can I make a phone ringtone with this?
Yes. Select up to 30 seconds, add a short fade out so it does not cut off abruptly, and export MP3. Android takes the MP3 directly; for iPhone you will need to convert it to M4R in another app first.
Does trimming re-compress the audio?
Exporting WAV does not compress at all — it writes the decoded samples as 16-bit PCM. Exporting MP3 re-encodes, so an MP3 in and an MP3 out means two rounds of lossy compression; choose 192 kbps or higher to keep that invisible.
What does normalise do?
It scans the selection for its loudest peak and scales everything up so that peak just reaches full scale. It makes quiet recordings usable without touching the balance between loud and soft parts — it is not the same as compression or loudness matching.
