Why is my GIF so large?

GIF stores every frame as a separate palette image, so file size grows with width, frame rate and clip length. A 320 px, 10 fps, 3-second clip usually lands between 1 and 3 MB. Drop the width to 240 px or the frame rate to 8 fps and the file typically halves.

How long a clip can I convert?

The encoder runs in your browser, so memory is the limit. Anything up to roughly 600 frames (for example 20 seconds at 30 fps, or 60 seconds at 10 fps) works comfortably on a laptop; longer clips are rejected so the tab does not run out of memory.

Does it keep the sound?

No — the GIF format has no audio track at all. If you need sound, use the video trimmer instead and keep the clip as WebM or MP4.
