Leave this on for speech — it removes room echo and steady background hiss. Turn it off when you are recording music or singing, because it also squashes quiet detail.

How to record your voice

  1. Click Start recording and allow microphone access when the browser asks.
  2. Watch the level meter — aim for the green and yellow range and keep it out of the red, which means clipping.
  3. Pause and resume as much as you like, press Stop, then play the take back and download it as WebM or WAV.

FAQ

WebM or WAV — which should I download?

WebM (Opus) is what the browser records natively: small files, excellent quality for speech, and it plays in every modern browser. Choose WAV when another program needs raw audio — subtitle tools, audio editors, older transcription software. WAV is about ten times larger.

Is anything uploaded while I record?

No. MediaRecorder writes the audio into memory inside this page and never touches the network. Close the tab and the recordings are gone, so download the ones you want to keep.

Why does the meter move but the recording is silent?

That usually means the wrong input is selected — a headset is plugged in while the built-in microphone is chosen, or vice versa. Pick a different device in the list and record a short test.
