FAQ

Why does my iPhone save HEIC instead of JPG?

HEIC stores the same photo in roughly half the space. It is the default on iOS, but Windows, many websites and older software still choke on it, which is why converting to JPG is so often needed. You can also switch your camera to “Most Compatible” in Settings → Camera → Formats.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The HEIC decoder runs inside this tab; your photos never leave the device, so even private pictures are safe to convert here.

The conversion failed — what now?

Live Photos, depth-map images and some burst files use HEIC variants the in-browser decoder cannot read. Try exporting the photo from the Photos app first, or e-mail it to yourself (iOS converts to JPG automatically).

Is EXIF kept?

No. The image is redrawn onto a canvas, so date, GPS and camera tags are dropped — a bonus if you are about to post the photo publicly.
