How to use the passport photo maker

  1. Pick the document. Choose your country and document — China passport 33×48 mm, US 2×2 in, Schengen 35×45 mm and 20+ more. The panel shows the exact size, head-height range and background colour that office expects.
  2. Load a portrait and align it. Drop in a photo or use your camera, then press Auto align face. The face is detected in your browser and scaled so the head height and eye line land inside the official band; drag, pinch or rotate to fine-tune. The live checklist turns green when every rule is met.
  3. Set the background and download. Replace the background with white, light grey, blue or red, then download a single digital photo at the exact pixel size (with an optional file-size limit), or a 4×6 in / A4 print sheet with cut lines you can hand to any photo shop.

Why photos get rejected

  • Head too large or too small — the single most common reason; use the head-height guides.
  • Shadows on the face or on the wall behind you.
  • Smiling, open mouth, tilted head, hair across the eyes or glare on glasses.
  • Coloured, patterned or textured background; a doorframe or picture edge in the frame.
  • Low resolution, heavy retouching, beauty filters, or a photo cropped from a group shot.

How to shoot a good one at home

Stand about 40 cm in front of a plain, evenly lit wall and have someone take the photo from two metres away at eye level (a long distance plus zoom avoids the wide-angle nose). Face a window so the light comes from the front — never shoot with a window or lamp behind you. Keep both ears and shoulders visible, eyes open, mouth closed, and no hat. Shoot the full head and shoulders; this tool does the cropping.

FAQ

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Face detection, cropping, background replacement and the print sheet all run inside this browser tab using your device's own processor. Nothing is sent to a server, and closing the tab erases everything.

How do I get a file under 120 KB for an online portal?

Set the JPG size limit in the download panel. The tool binary-searches the JPEG quality until the file fits the limit while keeping the exact pixel dimensions the portal requires.

Can I print these at a photo shop?

Yes. Download the 4×6 in sheet (1200×1800 px at 300 DPI), send it to any print kiosk or drugstore as a normal 4×6 photo, and cut along the thin lines. A 35×45 mm photo fits six times on one 4×6 print, and a 25×35 mm 1-inch photo fits twelve times.

Does the background remover work without the AI model?

Yes — the quick whiten option needs no download and works well when you shot against a plain, light wall. The AI model gives cleaner hair edges but is a one-time 40–80 MB download.
